Georgia Poised to Pass Human Life Amendment

888291state_capitol Jan. 15 /Christian Newswire/ -- Today, Jenny Hodges, National Director for Pro-Life Unity at ProLifeUnity.com is distributing 20,000 signed petitions to Georgia representatives at the state Capitol. The petitions were signed by citizens of Georgia. Georgians for Life, a grassroots effort, assembled the petitions to show the Georgia representatives that there are many people in Georgia who know that abortion must end. This effort follows the Let Them Live Rally, an event sponsored by Pro-Life Unity, which was held yesterday, January the 14th, 2008.

According to Hodges, this petition campaign is proving that grassroots efforts are reaching out to communities and challenging abortion. She said that this will be the year that Georgians take charge of protecting their own people.

The Let Them Live Rally at the Georgia Capitol was in support of HR 536, a Human Life Amendment and was submitted by Rep. Martin Scott. A steady stream of people came to the rally, closing two lanes in front of the Capitol for almost four hours.

Georgia's Human Life Amendment:

Life Amendment
(currently known as HR536):

Paramount right to life. (a) The rights of every person shall be recognized, among which in the first place is the inviolable right of every innocent human being to life. The right to life is the paramount and most fundamental right of a person.(b) With respect to the fundamental and inalienable rights of all persons guaranteed in this Constitution, the word 'person' applies to all human beings, irrespective of age, race, sex, health, function, or condition of dependency, including unborn children at every state of their biological development, including fertilization.

Fred, How Can You Not Remember Terri?

TerriTerri Schiavo, the woman who was starved and dehydrated to death under court order of Circuit Court Judge, George W. Greer of Pinnelas-Pasco's Sixth Judicial Court just two years ago, the constant legal battle between her wayward husband who wanted her dead and her loving parents who wanted to care for her, the battle that engaged public figures at every level including local sherrif, state legislators, Florida's Governor, the U.S. Congress, the Florida Supreme Court, the U.S. Supreme Court, the President, and every prominant religious leader including the Pope, the #23 top ranked "biggest news story that shaped history" and Fred Thompson "doesn't remember the details" enough to comment on it.  "That's going back in history," he says.

But in spite of his lack of memory of "history", he did give it enough consideration to give his old "federalism is the answer to everything" reply, "Local matters generally speaking should be left to the locals. I think Congress has got an awful lot to keep up with."

Fred, you're gonna have to wake up to the fact that this pat answer does not solve anything.  When you have state legislatures passing laws, only to be thrown out by state courts, "states rights" is a moot point.  There needs to be objective criteria.  What is a person?  What does the Constitution say about protecting persons?

Hat Tip: Michelle Malkin: Take a Stand, Fred.  I think the Anti-Harriet Miers Caucus is showing signs of life, which is a very good thing.

Open Letter to Fred Thompson: Pro-lifers Need Answers

Ph2007072002143Since Fred Thompson has managed thus far, to run his campaign, avoiding every debate that the other candidates have had to endure, Life of the Party thought it was time he actually answered some substantive questions instead of just giving us platitudes on the issue of Human Life.  This letter was submitted in the little box that his campaign website gives, so I made it short and sweet.

We know where most of the candidates stand on these questions, but his position remains vague, especially in light of his much clearer pro-abortion-choice position in his campaign for Senate.  His voting record does not include some of the issues in these questions, nor does anyone else's voting record, but the presidential candidates who have also been U.S. Congressional candidates in the past, have had these questions asked before, and their answers or non-answers can be easily found.  Fred, on the other hand has supposedly had a conversion on this issue.   We need to know to what extent he'll act on that conversion if elected.

Dear Mr. Thompson,

Please answer the following questions:

1) Do you believe unborn children have a fundamental right to life that cannot be infringed?

2) Do you support a human life amendment to the U.S. Constitution, recognizing pershonhood of unborn children from the moment of conception, regardless of how the child was conceived?

3) Do you support extending 14th Amendment protections to unborn children?

4) Do you support keeping the pro-life plank of the national Republican platform intact and un-watered down? (Note: All of the above are supported in the national platform)

5) Do you oppose legalizing euthanasia and asisted suicide?

6) I've heard you say that after Roe vs. Wade, abortion should be left up to the states.  Do you think slavery should have been left up to the states as well?

I look forward to your reply and will post your answers at Life of the Party.

Sincerely,

Michelle McIntyre

How to Find Out Which Candidates are Really Pro-Life

Rnc_box_main2_2 Do you want to find out which Republican candidates are really pro-life?  Whether they're running for President, U.S. Congressman or U.S. Senator, whether they are running for State Legislator, County Councilman or even Sherrif, ask them to fill out this survey (you can print it out and mail it to them or just ask them to print it out, and send it to Life of the Party.  They can contact me at: lifeoftheparty dot michelle at gmail dot com.

This survey is designed by RNC for Life, who for decades has been the leader in maintaining the pro-life plank in the Republican platform and informing Republican primary voters about which candidates are really pro-life, dealing solely with candidates for U.S. Congress, U.S. Senate and President.  Life of the Party's goal is to bring this accountability to Washington State Republicans earlier in the race, since often pro-lifers are sucked into a Republican candidate's campaign before they really know the position of the candidate, and later find out that there is a real pro-life alternative running in the primary.

Help Life of the Party get this into every Republican candidate's hands and challenge them to respond.

Let's also challenge all of the Republican presidential candidates to answer the questionnaire and get it to RNC for Life

Remembering Christ's Passion and Death, Remembering Terri's Suffering and Death

Terri_schiavo_and_mom Couldn't let the day end without a word about Terri on the two year anniversary of her death.  The saga that led to her state ordered death reached its climax during the Lenten climax, when we commemorate the state ordered death of Christ and His Passion.  As we prepare for Easter, let us remember and pray that God does bring about His Glory through such tragedies.

Be sure to visit Blogs for Terri to see what other are saying and for updates on her family.

Remembering Terri

Terri_schiavo From Blogs for Terri:

Two years ago today, at 1 p.m. March 18, 2005, the long, painful and barbaric process of the court-ordered execution by starvation of Terri Schindler-Schiavo began when the government, via judicial order, removed her feeding tube which provided her nutrition and hydration.

Many of us remember what we were doing and where we were at the time. We never thought the United States government was capable of the act which was perpetrated against a helpless disabled woman. Terri's slow and agonizing death via dehydration/starvation began on this day two years ago.

While Terri's life was taken, her family continues to fight euthanasia in all of its forms through the Terri Schindler Schiavo Foundation.
